Holt Castle

Holt castle was built by John de Warenne fron 1282 following the defeat of Llywelyn Ap Gruffyd by King Edward I. The inner ward of the castle was builtof an usual pentagonal design with five high round towers surrounding a small pentagonal courtyard, with an entrance to the north. The inner ward was semicircular with a gate on it’s north side. Little of the castle survives today having been used as a stone quarry by Thoam Grosvenor following the Civil War.
